Free to installNo analyticsQuota requests go directly to Gemini
Built into the prompt box
Your quota, right where you need it.
Gemini’s quota isn’t always easy to see. GemGauge puts it on the prompt-box border. No floating panels over your chat, no separate dashboard to check.
3pxA thin border indicator shows quota usage directly around Gemini's prompt box.
5h / 7dSwitch between your 5-hour and 7-day usage to see how much of each quota window you've used.
Every secondSee how long remains before each quota window resets, with a countdown that updates every second.
70% / 90%The meter changes color as usage rises. The default stages are green, amber at 70%, and red at 90%; you can customize the colors.
Light / DarkGemGauge adapts to Gemini's light and dark appearance so the meter fits in with the interface.
/u/0 · /u/1If you use more than one Google account in Gemini, GemGauge identifies the active account route so the quota indicator reflects the relevant account.
Customization
A few controls. No settings page.
GemGauge handles the basics automatically. When you want to change something, the controls are right below Gemini’s prompt bar.
Custom stage colorsNew in v1.6.9
Change the colors for Safe, Warning, and Critical usage levels. Restore the default theme-matched colors whenever you want.
1-Click ToggleTurn on a subtle moving highlight along the usage indicator, or turn it off for a plain, static border.
1-Click ToggleShort focus prompts appear after a period of inactivity. Turn them off if you'd rather keep the interface quiet.
AutomaticThe usage indicator adjusts to Gemini's composer when file attachments or Canvas content changes its size.
Auto-HideThe indicator hides while Gemini's tools menu or a modal is open, then returns when it's closed.
Performance
Designed to stay lightweight.
A quota indicator should stay out of your way. GemGauge updates its meter as needed and reduces background work when its tab isn’t visible.
Avoids unnecessary updates
When the displayed quota and countdown haven't changed, GemGauge avoids unnecessary updates to the meter.
Less work in background tabs
GemGauge pauses quota polling and countdown updates while the Gemini tab is hidden, then resumes when you return.
Retries with backoff
If a quota request fails or is rate-limited, GemGauge waits longer before retrying instead of repeatedly sending requests.
Measured cost per operation
Runtime details
12 automated suites, functional and performance, all passing. Timings measured in headless Chromium over a five-second idle window on one machine, so they are measurements rather than guarantees.

About
What is GemGauge?
GemGauge is a free Gemini usage tracker browser extension for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. It adds a live quota ring to Google Gemini’s prompt bar, so you can see how much of your 5‑hour session limit and 7‑day weekly limit you have used before you hit the cap.
Instead of a separate popup or dashboard, the Gemini quota meter sits exactly where you type. It shows a countdown to each reset, turns amber at 70% and red at 90%, and sends quota requests straight to Gemini — no account, no analytics, and no third-party servers.

Yes. GemGauge is a free Gemini usage tracker for Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It shows live 5-hour and 7-day quota on Gemini’s prompt bar with reset countdowns and warning colors. There is no account, no subscription, and no analytics.
Install GemGauge from the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons, open gemini.google.com, and read the ring around the prompt bar. It shows the percentage used in the current 5-hour window and the 7-day weekly window, plus a countdown to each reset.
GemGauge is designed to display quota information from Gemini without automating prompts or simulating user input. It makes quota requests from your browser session. No third-party extension can guarantee how Google will treat every request or future implementation change. Use GemGauge at your own discretion, and review its permissions and Privacy Policy before installing.
GemGauge is available through the Chrome Web Store and Edge Add-ons. It’s built for Chromium-based browsers, including Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi, although compatibility may vary.A standalone Firefox version is in development and isn’t available yet.
GemGauge doesn’t have a separate popup or settings page. Its controls are available in the small capsule below Gemini’s prompt bar, where you can switch quota windows, toggle the visual effects and quotes, and change the warning colors.
GemGauge is designed to keep its indicator separate from much of Gemini’s internal UI, which helps it handle some interface changes. However, Google can change the page or the quota endpoint in ways that require an update. If an update breaks something, I’ll work on a fix. I can’t guarantee an immediate fix for every change.
That’s intentional. GemGauge hides the indicator when supported menus or overlays open so it doesn’t overlap Gemini’s tools, attachment tray, or Canvas interface. It reappears when the overlay closes.
